How transport works

The journey to Germany is the last step before your first day together. All our dogs travel microchipped, vaccinated and with complete papers. So that you know exactly what happens and how to prepare, we'll walk you through every stage here.

Preparing for the journey

Before a dog is allowed to travel, it is thoroughly prepared — the health of your future companion comes first:

  • Health examination by a vet
  • Vaccinations, tick and parasite protection
  • Rapid test for the most common travel diseases
  • TRACES papers for the official departure
  • EU pet passport

The drive to Germany

The vehicle sets off in the morning in Romania and follows a route fixed in advance — much like a coach. It is climate-controlled, and the dogs are given fresh water regularly along the way. Which route is taken depends on where the new dog families live; the vehicle stops at various points across Germany.

Your contact person will give you access to a group chat. There you'll get regular news about the transport, learn the exact stop near you and an estimate of when the vehicle will arrive.

What to bring to the pick-up

  • A sturdy crate for the safe onward journey in your car
  • A safety harness in the right size
  • Two leads for double security
  • The adoption contract
  • Your ID

At the pick-up you'll receive your dog together with the TRACES transport documents and EU pet passport.

After the pick-up

Please drive straight home after the pick-up. Let your dog relieve itself outside first — ideally in the garden — before you show it its new home. You can read what comes next in A rescue dog moves in.

Please understand if your new family member isn't immediately happy about being picked up. After a journey that sometimes lasts more than 24 hours, the dogs are often exhausted and unsettled. Give them the time they need to arrive with you.
